With the price of original (made in the 50s) Volkswagen German W deck lids sky rocketting they are becoming worthy of repair.
The reproductions available are fair to decent quality, but are definitely not original.

We're often asked to do this type of repair, and we thought we'd share one with you.

The bottom 3 inches were rusted away:

We simply replaced the rusted piece with a modified repair piece from a donor:

This was GMAW Short arc welded using our standard technique. A very quick metal finish was all it took. (right half roughed in):

Note the minimal haz (heat affected zone):

Both sides roughed in after welding. There's a bit of pitting and staining:
